Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (1861–1962) was a pioneering civil engineer, statesman, and the 19th Diwan of Mysore. Widely celebrated as the "Father of Modern Mysore", he designed critical irrigation systems and flood protection schemes, and his September 15 birthday is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India.
